Spoonfield Promo

Produced by Ian Malabre, Anisa Hosseinizad and Sam Malabre.

“Spoonfield” is a response to the installation rainfield by dan clayman at massart, an installation that utilized the labor and resources of the glass department and an additional class throughout the first semester of the year to create an installation for massart’s grand opening of the dmc, a 10 million dollar useless building. the exclusive usage of the hot shop and student labor for the first weeks of the semester by the glass department was granted by the MassArt executive community, and the students were repaid for their effort through being guilted into working and being given pizza. The class consisted of  slight amounts of learning about large scale installation and hours of labor poured into making and hanging ten thousand glass drops.

Spoonfield is a response to this process and utilizes humor to outline the issues facing a changing educational field that continually views its students as additional sources of income and free labor. This promotional video was released online before the unveiling of the “Spoonfield” piece to the massart community in a performance that featured the character Clan Dayman, a part rockstar, part artist, all businessman hybrid. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, with the humor acting as a way to release the negative feelings that many felt towards either the project or the new Design and Media Center building.
